Power & Conflict Anthology
Various (15 poems) · · Paper 2 Section B
Context
The AQA Power & Conflict anthology spans from Romantic poetry (Shelley, Blake, Wordsworth) through Victorian verse (Browning, Tennyson) to modern and contemporary voices (Owen, Hughes, Heaney, Armitage, Duffy, Dharker, Agard). The poems collectively explore how power is exercised, resisted, and remembered — from the tyranny of ancient kings to the psychological scars of modern warfare, from nature's sublime force to the quiet power of memory and identity. In the exam (Paper 2, Section B), one poem is printed and students must compare it with another poem of their choice from the anthology.
